Pictured below is an early installation in "Le Canard Bleu" which was built to Mr Brian Owen's own design from solid timber. He had previously built and owned the "Maggie" - a 70' schooner well known for many years on the Auckland Harbour and Hauraki Gulf and again powered with a Gardner Diesel.
Le Canard Bleu is an early installation of the K4 unit coupled to a Gardner twin cylinder diesel running 28 hp @ 1250 rpm on a heavy duty PRM 1.50:1 redn.
The K4 is ideally suited to this application which requires a very large propeller due to the very low shaft speeds. Brian has tried both 19.50" and 20.50" blades and is currently running the later @ 22º of pitch.
